BP Denies Media Access To Cleanup Site: A Lesson in Poor Crisis Communications

Here’s how BP handled a local TV reporter in June 2010. What do you think about the way the company dealt with this reporter? My take: BP could have set this reporter up with someone in charge on the ground to explain the cleanup process if it did not want to grant access. Instead, it becomes obvious during this tape that the company is trying to hide information and this only played into growing public opinion about BP’s desire to silence workers and prevent even good information from being released. Clearly, a missed opportunity for BP.
